Is it true that after January 1, 2006, you will need a passport when going to Rocky Point?

There were a couple of different ideas and regulations being tossed around. As it stands now, they're going to nexessitate passorts for Mexican travel on December 31, 2006 - I.e. the end of 2006, NOT the end of 2005.

If you're going to the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America, though, starting Dec 31 2005 you'll need a passport - but not Mexico.

You can check it out here: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2224.html

With the way US travel regulations are fluctuating these days I can see them adjusting this date at some later point, but for now, you won't need a passport for Mexican travel until the end of 2006.

I went to the State Dept's website, and although it shows as of Dec 2006, a passport is required, it shows only for air and sea travel. Dec 2007 is when it shows for land travel.
