Topic: Latest on Coastal Highway?

Hey all,

Has anyone out there explored what has already been paved of the Coastal Highway? Reports online are few and far between and mostly dated. Latest I heard was the pavement reached about 30km east of El Golfo and 30km west of Penasco... with about 25km unfinished in between.

I'd really like to explore the coast before the development takes place, but I do not own a Jeep, so I've only got a narrow window to work with.

I'd be really interested to know how close the road gets to the Altar Desert Dunes... and if there are any fishing camps or natural features of interest along the way.

The maps I've seen seem to vary on how close to the coast the highway really will be...they're all different!

(Map on page 2 ^^)

Any news from "on the ground" would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
-Mike

I believe it is more than 25 km unfinished road. It is more like 80 miles of unfinished road. I have been in desert of altar few times, the dunes are nice, same as you see in sahara movies, with no vegetation at all. There is only one small fishing village in between, but they are all small shacks. There is not much to see exept sand.
