Topic: Border Crossing with a borrowed car Goto page 1, 2Next
Me and a few friends are planning a trip to Puerta Penasco for this coming weekend, but we are using a borrowed car. Have any of you ever tried or done this? And for those of you who used your own car, did they ask for the car title or any proof of ownership? Thanks

Wouldn't do it... You are better off renting a car, getting Mexican insurance and splitting the cost. If you happen to get stopped at the boarder without proof of ownership, they WILL assume it is stolen and WILL impound it. you probably won't get stopped, but it would turn your trip ugly real quick if you did.

I thought you can't take a rented car into MX?

You can, with the right paperwork - and few places (Dollar, Enterprise, the one listed here on this site, adobe) will rent for cross border travel as part of company policy.
But yes, you can take a rented car across. They usually ding you on insurance and rental costs though
