Everyone in Puerto Peñasco got very excited a couple of weeks ago when a fishing charter came across a small pod of Orca Whales showed up not to many miles out. Seems as fast as they came they left.  Our regular Whale Watching season will be starting within the next couple of weeks, so make your reservations for accommodations soon as well as deciding which boat you would like to out on.  There are several to choose from and most include an open bar along with soft drinks and water.  Below is a list and their contact info.  Due to the capacity currently being limited, you need to make your reservations in advance with the owners directly.

ECO TOURS: This family owned and operated company has two boats. The Sol Chaser is a fast moving 50′x 22′ catamaran designed to get you out to where the whales are quickly. The tours are about 3 hours long and offer you a full open bar along with beer, soda or water. Comfortable seating for 35 with very clean restrooms. The 2nd boat is called the Ecofun1 and is a double decker catamaran that is 72′ x 26′ and holds 70 guests. The ECOFUN1 also has a full open bar. Besides Whale Watching, both boats do sunset trips as well as trips to Bird Island to swim with the Sea Lions. PANCHO VILLA TOURS:  This a 57′ Californian Cabin Cruiser and is also family owned and operated.  It features 3 open decks as well as comfortable inside seating along with clean restrooms. This boat does whale watching, fishing trips, Sunset cruises , private parties as well as swim and snorkel trips to Bird Island.  On all trips they provide sodas, water as well as great Margaritas.  When on the whale watching they have a 1st mate who is the lookout for the whales  and will let you know when to be ready to get some great photos. He will explain how long the whale will stay down for before coming up and showing off for you. It is a leisurely cruise as are their sunset cruises and private party cruises.  This is boat that is great for birthday parties as well as anniversary parties. GO BIG CHARTERS: This company is a family owned business and offers their 34′ Baja Catamaran  named “KING CATCH” that cruises at 20 mph to get out to see the whales quickly. They like all boats are running at a diminished capacity so they can accommodate 10 people. This will give you lots of space to spread out and get some great pictures of your whale watching adventure.  The trips last 2 1/2 to 3 hours and usually has someone on board to explain about the Sea of Cortez and the types of whales and dolphins you will be seeing. This company specializes in Deep sea fishing and offer 4 1/2 hour trip that will find Grouper, Sea Bass, Trigger and Rock Bass while their 6 hour trip go out farther and you will catch deep reef Grouper and Pinto Bass. They also offer an 8 hour trip which is geared for the experienced fisherman and they will go out to the 18-25 mile reefs for the bigger fish. They also  do private sunset cruises for up to 10 and private trips to Bird Island for snorkeling and kayaking.
