Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco): Specialty Food Stores

You can find juice bars, candy shops and many other specialty places in Rocky Point Mexico

During your visit to Rocky Point Penasco, you must take a drive into town. You will realize that there are many specialty stores where you are able to find just about anything.

There are many ice cream shops in town. One of the most popular ice cream brands in Mexico is La Michoacana. This ice cream is made of real fruit juice or creamy milk products.  It is delicious and worth the try. One place in town where they bake their own waffle cones is The Thrifty Ice Cream Stores.  There are three or four in Penasco. They have 32 plus flavors of ice cream and sorbet, banana splits, Sundays and many other great desserts.

You can find juice bars, candy stores, bakeries and tortillerias.  In the tortillerias, you will find home made tortillas which are a must to buy for quesadillas, burritos, tacos, etc.

Candy stores are insane...They have so many candy types and sweets that you will just go crazy.  Try the GOAT milk candy!, it is called goat milk "obleas". The taste is similar to the sweet condensed milk in the US but with a baked flavor. If you are a little adventurous, try any of the scipy candy such as the mango favor suckers covered with hot chile piquin. Also pretty interesting are the tamarindos which are a sour candy made with tamarindo fruit, sugar and chile piquin. Be careful not to swallow the tamarindo candy, it is a round ball that has a pit.  If you prefer chocolate, try the "Duvalines" made with milk and vanilla flavor chocolate.  Also popular is Carlos V for those chocolate lovers.

Below we will add over the next few weeks a list for your reference of specialty food stores.
