Triathlons and races
2008 Triathlon
Tres de Mayo 2008, the Red Rock Company is again hosting the Las Palomas Triathlon in beautiful Rocky Point (Puerto Penasca, Mexico). The new venue, new bike course, new run course and great sponsors are only a few reason why you should be heading to Mexico for this incredible triathlon party! Las Palomas, located at "Sandy Beach", just Northwest of town has new paved roads, a beautiful golf course and amazing amenities. For the first time at this venue, we will have the roads closed to automobile traffic. The course is incredible, fast and flat. It's perfect for a fun triathlon and won't interfere with your post race party at all.
Olympic Distance (individual and relay teams)- Swim 1000 Meters, Bike 24.5 Miles, Run 6.2 Miles.
Sprint Distance - Swim 400 Meters, Bike 10, Run 3.1
10K and 5K Run
Athletes, since the majority of people racing are from Southern California and Arizona and invading the peaceful scenery around "Sandy Beach", we are asking you to bring some NON-PARISHABLE foods and also clothing that we can donate back to the community. Drop them off at packet pick-up on Friday afternoon and Red Rock will make the delivery to a bunch of grateful people!

No explanation as to what 'recent events' means.
Don't bother emailing me, that's all the info I have - see tucsonracing.com instead.
The eleventh Las Palomas Rocky Point Triathlon is scheduled for 29, 2006 - see the organizer's site at tucsonracing.com.
Puerto Penasco has been hosting an increasing number of triathlons that have been been gaining in popularity since it began in 1995. The organizers recently added a 10k road race to the event list as well. www.tucsonracing.com is the organizer's site for these events.
Penasco has a winning combination for a triathlon - the climate in March/April is just right (read: not blazingly hot) roads with some variation in elevation for biking, and enough cheap hotels and establishments to accommodate an influx of a few thousand athletes and their families. Combined with the usual Penasco party atmosphere, I hear it is a great race.
And to quote the tucsonracing.com website - 'The finish line will be stocked with soda, water and Tecate beer'. Enough said.
The event sponosors, tucsonracing.com have all of the organizational details, but we've dug out a few other sites related to the Penasco Triathlon for you to check it out. We'll hopefully getting more information (and photos) about this event up in the future.

This company handled the race photographs for the last Rocky Point Triathlon - they'll give you an idea what the course and terrain look like.
Rocky Point Triathlon - writeup in Slow Twitch
Excerpt: "I like the idea of this race because Mexico rocks. The Rocky Point Triathlon must be the biggest triathlon now in Mexico, ergo this race must double-rock."
