In spring there are so many events here in Puerto Peñasco and is hard to decide what do first.
This past Friday was May 1 and much to my shock the banks were closed and I assume the electric company (CFE) and Telmex were also closed. Guess I will note that one for next year!!
Events in May are US Mother’s Day on May10 and Mexican Mother’s Day on May 10th as well. In the US it is always the 2nd Sunday of the month and in Mexico it is on the 10th, so it can fall on any day. I love living here as there are so many parties to go to as the Dia de la Madre is a big holiday here. There is music coming from everywhere and the smell of food cooking is wonderful. People here tend to go to the mom’s house rather than go out to a restaurant. I went to a friend of ours, Julio Mesa’s mom’s party years ago. They blocked off the whole street in front oh her home and had a band and everything. I felt so honored to be invited to be part of their family as my family was in Phoenix. Another reason why we love Mexico and Rocky Point.
May 25th is Memorial Day for the US, so Puerto Peñasco will be jam packed. If you don’t already have a reservation, you better have a tent. This town is one big party. Plan your return trip to the US accordingly as even with all the lines open, you can expect delays. That can be said of coming into Mexico as well. Bringing pets? Make sure you have their shot records. The best thing to do, is have a picture of your dog or cat on one side of a piece of paper and their shot records on the other and also put you drivers license on one of those sides. It sure saves a lot of time crossing.
July 4th will be the Sonoran Resorts big fund raiser Las Vegas Night and will be held at the Sonoran SKY. Tickets are on sale either from Sonoran agents or the SKY office and online. This is always a fun filled night with food, drink and gaming. All proceeds go to DIF Charity. The last 3 years they raised $5,000 each year. The cost is $35 per person and that includes a full buffet, $300 in gaming chips, new games to add to the excitement and will start at 7 and goes until 11 mas o manus. DON”T MISS THIS FUN EVENT. GET YOUR TICKETS EARLY.
July 4th is usually pretty busy, until August 28th when it is Dia de Los Abuelos (Grandparents Day). Labor Day will come in September and again lots of people.
This brings me to the biggest event of the year.. This year will the 15th Anniversary of the Rocky Point Rally. It was started by Oscar Palacio and is so much fun. It is billed as the “Greatest Motorcycle Rally Just South of The Border”. He is assisted by Sami Riveria of RP360 and I have been in charge of getting the volunteers for the registration since before I had gray hair. This is almost a week long event with riders coming from as far away as Alaska, Japan, Florida, Texas, New Mexico and many more states. Last year we raised of $20,000 for the 7 charities here in Rocky Point and DIF in Sonoyta. We ask the riders to donate toys when they register and these are passed out on King’s Day January 6th to the children that don’t have much. Bring your toys and we will have a place set up to donate them. You can also donate money if you don’t want to come down with a stuffed doll on your bike and we’ll buy toys. There is also a Poker Run which starts in Arizona and there is a Condo Poker Run here in town. I am listing the tentative schedule so you can make your reservations soon as the hotels, condos and beach home fill up very quickly. There are events going on all weekend. Ride on an escorted tour to the Shuk Toal Visitor Center and learn about the Pinacate Volcano Range, take a boat ride on the Pirate Ship and much more.
Plan to make this your stop for Bike Week November 11-15. Visit the website at WWW.ROCKYPOINTRALLY.COM. Check here at Puerto-Penasco.com for updates.
Once again come visit us and we’ll be able to say “Welcome Home”
